Hat arrived quickly without any damage, sealed in plastic, inside a box. When I tried the hat on, it was way to big. I could hold it in place on my head without it even touching any part of my head and spin around without moving it. It was big!A few options ran through my head...but I already have a few L hats that are a little too tight for any long term comfort. Then I remembered 98% Organic Cotton was on a tag I glanced at, so I ran a sink full of hot tap water and let it soak a few hours and dried it out...no squashing or wringing out to preserve the shape. And hey, it was only half as bad. So I cut two 3/4" strips off the cardboard box and inserted them beneath the inside hatband and wore it a few days. It fit good. Then I decided to boil some very hot water to fill the sink and let it soak a longer time and let it dry. This time it fit perfect, no inserts needed. My hat is like new dark green fabric, with a few scuffs thrown in to give it a little character. Very nice hat, has and holds a nice shape, which now is an excellent fit. Careful not to overdo this process on this hat if you try it. But that is how I got a 5 Star hat, my best hat, after the disappointment and such a bad first impression.I think they should supply a few quality inserts with each online hat they sell since their tolerances allowed for each size varies as much as they do.I am a hat guy, but with that said I seldom if ever find a hat that is just right for me. I am somewhat small framed so in my opinion a wide brim hat does not look good. I have found that a 2 ¼ inch brim is perfect, but a little hard to find in a design that I like. Another obstacle I have always faced is hat size. If you find a hat that says one size fits all or one size fits most……………it’s a lie. Everyone has a specific at size that will fit their head correctly. Trying to buy an off the self hat for me is impossible. 95% of them are Large, XLarge or Medium at the best. I wear a small (6 & 7/8). This hat from Conner Hats is perfect in every way. Size, shape and design. It has quickly become my favorite hat and Conner Hats may be my favorite hat company. The hat appears to be wax cotton or oilskin by the picture however it is not. It simply has that appearance but they are clear in their description that it is made from “weathered cotton”. Not exactly a summer hat but it is light enough to wear occasionally during warmer months. I would highly recommend this hat. Delivery was made in less than a week.Wearing this hat made me think of Indiana Jones.I had a couple of surprises with this hat...neither of them were positive, and each cost a star:1. Saw a box on the porch & it was large enough that maybe I was going to escape the "crushed hat" issue others have commented on. Inside the box I am surprised to find the hat curled up tightly inside a plastic bag. Crazy...no good reason for it as it did not reduce the size of the roomy box.2. After uncurling the hat I am surprised by how shiny the material is. "Distressed" to me does not mean shiny. Ad photos don't show shiny' and the user photos don't show shiny...why is mine shiny? Is there a way to make it look not-shiny like the photos? If I had wanted shiny, I would have ordered the Orvis "Oilcloth" hat, similar in shape.Ordered a medium per the sizing recommendations in the product picture for my 22" head. It came somewhat small in that it was very tight at first.I then ordered a large, only to find that it was WAAAY too large.I then proceeded to boil some water over in a pot approximately the diameter of the hat and steamed it for about 3-4 minutes.I took my office trash can, which, from the bottom up is gets slightly larger, and firmly pressed the hat down on the bottom of the trash can, stretching the cotton fibers in the brim a bit (not too much).I did this twice, leaving it on for an hour on the last stretch. I then took it off and wore it the rest of the day, and now it fits perfectly.Incidentally, I also waxed it with Otter Wax to give it more water resistance and to stiffen it a bit to be able to shape the brim.No one will mistake this hat for the one worn by Harrison Ford in the Indiana Jones franchise but it is a good crushable (packable) hat. Fits well, feels study, is reasonably water resistant (although it would get soaked in a deluge) and the brim helps keep the Sun out of your eyes. It is my grab-and-go light use hat when traveling. If you are spending more time outside in unpredictable weather look for a more waterproof hat with a wider brim and a chin strap for high winds. This is my #1indy style hat. And I own about ten. The weathered cotton looks great. It is definitely water resistant. Have worn it in light rain for small amounts of time and it beads nicely. People ordering this hat must realize that it is supposed to look worn. And about the size....Ordering fitted hats on line is a gamble. Period. Kinda like shoes. From company to company I may vary almost a whole size in shoes. Hats r the same. For example, if u r at the end of the small range u may take a medium. Depends on the company. Hope that helps. I personally love this hat. Wear it all the time in the fall and spring. Is not a hot weather hat. Unless u like sweating up your hat. It looks better with pants. Will not wear it with shorts. To each his own. I never saw Indy with shorts!! I own this hat for about 2+ years now. And is holding up like a champ. Good hat for hiking in fall and spring. Love itThis was a great product but sadly I bought it too large. However Amazon’s return program is flawless. Such an easy process.if one thing goes wrong Everything goes wrong all at once.Esta bien...me gustoLo compré para mí papá y le encantó, muy bonitoThe stitching is horrible, and seems to have missed a spot.I would think after spending 114.00 I would have a nice hat but this is not the case.I'll leave this up to the vendor if they want more pictures I would be happy to do so.I would like to know what you will do about this?
